| You know what I really can't stand? Lettuce in a burrito. It cools the whole thing down and interferes with the cheesy, juicy melding of ingredients. If ordering sans lettuce makes my burrito a little less "healthy," so be it! Fiber was not the reason I stopped for a burrito anyways. | We all have those foods we dislike, despite knowing we should eat them for the health benefits — even registered dietitians, as it turns out. I very much enjoyed hearing these nutrition experts go off about the healthy foods they can't stand. And I think you will too! | | | | Cheers, Ginger Wojcik Newsletter Editor, Healthline | | | Written by Ginger Wojcik May 30, 2024 • 3 min read | | | | | | Q: | What's your least favorite "healthy" food? | | A: | "Cauliflower! I don't love the taste. To me it's just kind of boring. And everyone wants to use it a million different ways now to replace starches, which is great, but sometimes I just want some potatoes, rice, or real pizza crust!" — Jessica Sandoz, MS, RDN, LDN, CDCES
"I enjoy most vegetables, but I despise cucumbers! It makes ordering sushi difficult, but I can't stand the flavor. It reminds me of using cucumber melon-scented lotion as a child!" — Kirsten Seele, MFN, RD, LD, NBC-HWC, Wellos Coach
"Kale. I can handle it in small amounts if it's mixed in with other things, but I don't like the bitter taste. I'd rather use spinach or mixed greens." — Annie Hibbs, CPPM, MS, RD, LD
"Mushrooms. I hate the texture and weird bland flavor." — Lindsay Mahar, MS, RDN, Wellos Coach
"I've tried for years and years to get myself to like cooked fish and just can't. Thankfully, between sushi and fish oil supplements, I'm still able to get in those essential omega-3s." — Kelli McGrane, MS, RD
"It's not that I don't like them, but the plant-based imitation meat products kinda drive me nuts lol. I think they are fun and add some variety to otherwise bleh meals. But many of the products [are created with so many] random things to make them edible that it really isn't worth the price. And [being plant-based] doesn't make it a 'healthier' choice than a slab of lean protein." — Mohini Bhakta, MBA, RDN, CDCES
"Olives. I have tried many times; however, I cannot get myself to be fine with the texture." — Leah Maschino, MBA, RDN | | Want to learn more about food, diets, cooking, or some other nutrition subject?
