the stream of mind

Citta-saṃtāna (Sanskrit), literally "the move of thoughts",[3] is the flow of succeeding moments of mind or focus. It provides a continuity of the personality in the absence of a permanently abiding "self" (ātman), which Buddhism denies. The mindstream gives a continuity from one existence to every other, comparable to the flame of a candle which can be passed from one candle to another:[4][5][note 1]
Indian Buddhists see the 'evolution' of mind i[n] phrases of the continuity of individual mind-streams from one lifetime to the subsequent, with karma because the simple causal mechanism whereby adjustments are transmitted from one existence to the following.[6]
According to Waldron,
[T]he thoughts circulation (santāna) increases gradually by way of the intellectual afflictions (kleśa) and via actions (karma), and goes once more to the following world. In this way the circle of life is with out beginning."
The vāsanās (karmic imprints) provide the karmic continuity among lives and between moments. According to Lusthaus, those vasanas decide how one
