Dyer was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Melvin Lyle Dyer and Hazel Irene Vollick, and spent tons of his first ten years in an orphanage on the east aspect of Detroit,[1] after his father walked out at the circle of relatives, leaving his mother to elevate 3 small boys.[2] His dad and mom had moved from Ontario, Canada, and were individuals of Baptist Church.[3][4][5] After graduating from Denby High School, Dyer served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962. He acquired his Ed.D. Diploma in counseling from Wayne State University[6] for a dissertation titled Group Counseling Leadership Training in Counselor Education, underneath the supervision of Mildred Peters.[7]
