I've seen friends posting their version of this viral drink all over Instagram lately, and I can't help but wonder … does it actually work? Or does it just look pretty and taste good? We asked our resident registered dietitian to find out.

Our RD weighs in on the 'Sleepy Girl Mocktail'
The #SleepyGirlMocktail hashtag has almost 60 million views, and TikTokers are raving about how it helps them sleep more soundly. This viral drink consists of two main ingredients to help you catch more Zzz's: magnesium and tart cherry juice. And according to Lisa Valente, MS, this trendy tonic may actually be worth trying.
"Tart cherries are a natural source of melatonin and may help with sleep quality," she explains.
"Research has found that magnesium may help with sleep, as well as anxiety. Now, I don't recommend you get your supplement advice from TikTok, but magnesium is a nutrient many of us don't get enough of."
Upping your magnesium intake can help you fall — and stay — asleep and offer other health perks, like better mood and heart health. But if your sleeplessness is caused by chronic insomnia, menopause, or other health conditions, there's very little evidence to confirm this drink will work for you.
As always, chat with a doctor before trying new supplements and to make sure there are no underlying issues disrupting your sleep! In the meantime, this drink could be worth a shot (or glass).
