Earlier this month, I celebrated 30 years at NPR. I’m a lucky soul. I directed All Things Considered for 18 of those years and started NPR’s first online show — and later, podcast — called All Songs Considered in 2000. Ten years ago, I created the Tiny Desk concert series. That series of concerts behind my desk is so full of joy; it’s also become a vehicle of music discovery for people of all ages all over the world.
Here at NPR Music, we’re passionate about finding talented artists and giving them a platform. That’s why All Songs Considered featured conversations this year with everyone from Paul Simon to Jeff Tweedy to Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield. It’s why we launched Slingshot, our collaboration with member stations across the country that highlights up-and-coming artists we love. And it’s that same mission that powers the Tiny Desk Contest, our annual search for an undiscovered act to play behind my desk.
I have been a supporter of public radio long before I came to work here and continue to be an avid fan. I’ve come to understand that a small gift gives so much in return.
Today, I ask you to stop for a moment and contribute to the NPR station in your community. Your gift, in any amount, will help us keep doing this work.
