With the Tiny Desk decked out for the holiday season and PTO top of mind, we can’t help but reflect on the year that was. Thinking about the year’s curtain call brings to our minds the close of a certain Broadway show, too: Bruce Springsteen’s. Don’t worry if you couldn’t make it in person (we couldn’t, either): Though the intensely personal run wraps up this weekend after more than 230 performances, it’s been preserved in an excellent new film available for streaming.

Best Music of 2018

  • We love the lists our team made of this year’s best albums and songs — but, of course, we were a little heartbroken that some of our favorites got left off. So we took to All Songs Considered to talk about hidden gems: the albums that didn’t make the cut for our big staff list, but forever have a place in our hearts.
  • Curious what fellow NPR Music fans listen to? The results are in for All Songs Considered’s year-end poll; check out the list of listeners’ 100 favorite albums of 2018.
  • Latin music’s brimming with an overwhelming amount of creativity and inspiration — and this year’s releases are just more proof. From Rosalía’s flamenco-tinged R&B drama to Alice Bag’s punk wisdom and beyond, here’s Alt.Latino’s list of the best music of 2018.

Tiny Desk

  • H.E.R. is an artist who's built her reputation on a certain degree of anonymity (ironically, the acronym stands for “Having Everything Revealed”). So it was a special treat to see the artist — who was nominated for five Grammys this year — showcase her vocal mastery and her skills as a captivating multi-instrumentalist in the light of day behind Bob Boilen’s desk.

One More Thing

  • Most music venues don’t cater to the aging population; as a result, senior music lovers can be left out in the cold. That's where Jazz 966 comes in: a Brooklyn senior center by day and a swinging jazz club by night.
