President Trump Will End Key Affordable Care Act Subsidy

The cost-sharing reduction payments to insurers help poorer Americans above the poverty line purchase health coverage. Not paying the subsidies, health care experts had warned, would send Obamacare's insurance exchanges into turmoil.

The subsidies, which a bipartisan group of senators had sought to maintain, would have cost the government $10 billion in fiscal 2018. Democratic leaders in Congress called the decision to end them "a spiteful act of vast, pointless sabotage."
