Bookstores may be fading, but this one got hundreds of volunteers to help them move, bucket-brigade-style Shoulder to shoulder, community members formed a line 500 feet long: from the stockroom of the old radical bookshop, down the sidewalk and onto the shop floor of the new store. People at bus stops joined in. Passers-by asked what was happening, then joined the chain. In just one hour, they moved 2,000 books down the block, to a new space purchased with community support. |
