National Book Awards: Jesmyn Ward Takes Her 2nd Fiction Prize, Annie Proulx's Career Honored

Ward won the fiction prize for her novel Sing, Unburied, Sing after being honored in 2010 for Salvage the Bones. Proulx, best known for National Book Award-winning 1993 novel The Shipping News, received the medal for distinguished contribution to American letters.

In other awards, Masha Gessen was honored in nonfiction for The Future Is History, her chronicle of four people living in modern Russia; Robin Benway won for her young people's novel Far From The Tree, a story of an adoptee's search for her biological siblings; and poet Frank Bidart was recognized for a book collecting 50 years of his best work.
