A home for NPR's Black voices |

Black perspectives haven’t always been centered in the telling of America’s story. In “Black Stories, Black Truths,” NPR’s new collection and campaign, they are the story. Like the Black experience, this campaign is a lot of things. It’s a video series, it’s a curated feed of podcast episodes, and—most importantly—it’s a celebration of Black voices in journalism. Think of it as NPR, noir. Over 24 podcast episodes, you’ll hear stories of joy, resilience, empowerment, and creating amazing things out of struggle. Each of them is a living account of what it means to be Black today. So you can better understand the barriers Black men face in seeking mental health care, and how to make therapy more accessible for them with Michel Martin on Consider This. Go on a Black, trans journey through TV and film with Brittany Luse on It’s Been a Minute. Or hear former first lady Michelle Obama’s best tips for making relationships thrive on Life Kit. Then head over to our interview videos to see some of your favorite NPR hosts open up in ways you don’t often get to hear. Learn how being a Black journalist has (and hasn’t) changed over hip-hop writer and Louder Than a Riot co-host Rodney Carmichael’s career. Hear Code Switch co-host B.A. Parker tell us what she owes her Black listeners. And watch Up First and Weekend Edition co-host Ayesha Roscoe explain why she isn’t changing her voice for anyone. You can also stop by the merch table we created for BSBT and pick up a tote bag, t-shirt, or hoodie emblazoned with some of the inspirational lines you’ll hear throughout the campaign. We hope you enjoy exploring our collection of Black stories and truths. Even with all we’re including here, we’re just barely scratching the surface. And there’s no limit to our range. Listen to the feed on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, NPR.org. Or search “NPR Black Stories. Black Truths.” wherever you get your podcasts. |
