First Listen: Son Lux, 'Brighter Wounds'

Ryan Lott is both a classically-trained musician and composer, and an inventive sound designer adept at beat production. For years, he's blurred genre lines with his scores for film and dance, and of course, with his moniker-turned-band, Son Lux. Son Lux's new album, Brighter Wounds, takes a darker turn. Written and recorded in the wake of the 2016 election and the tumultuous year that followed - a period during which Lott also experienced the birth of his first child and the tragic loss of a close friend to cancer - Brighter Wounds establishes an ominous tone early and across these 10 songs.

Vicente García: Tiny Desk Concert

Singer-songwriter Vicente García is still relatively under the radar, but performances like the one he gave at the Tiny Desk are starting to turn some heads. García's music isn't dominated by his native Dominican Republic, but you can hear it in every note. Though Kendrick lends his talents by adding in a rap verse, this song was clearly made for The Weeknd to run with.

Chvrches Is Back With The Ambitiously Poppy 'Get Out'

With tightly packed electronic hooks and Lauren Mayberry's soaring soprano, Chvrches went for the jugular on its sophomore album Every Open Eye. Up until this point, the electronic trio from Scotland has been self-produced, featuring band members Iain Cook and Martin Doherty's off-center, pulsating beats. This time around, the band has teamed up with Greg Kurstin, who's fresh off of a repeat win for producer of the year at the Grammys for his work with the Foo Fighters, Beck, Adele and Sia.
