Let's Ask the Dietitian
Q: What foods should you eat and what foods should you avoid when you live with diabetes?
A: Great question! Just a few simple changes can have big impacts on your blood glucose.

Here are some other tips to work into your diet to banish bloating:
  • Increase non-starchy vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats.
  • For snacks, choose fruit, non-starchy vegetables, or whole grain paired with a protein.
  • Find diabetes-friendly recipes and prep meals and snacks ahead.
  • Try to keep starchy foods (for example, pasta, potatoes, and rice) to one-quarter of your plate.
  • Limit sweets and check labels for added sugars and sugar alcohols.
  • Try monk fruit sweetener (look out for more on this one in a coming Edition).
  • Avoid fast food, and cook and eat fewer processed and ultra-processed foods.
Try making just one change at a time and see what works best for you. Sign up for our diabetes newsletter for more advice on what to eat, medications, and more.
