| Hello there, Nutrition Edition subscribers! It's so nice to meet you. I'm Kenny Thapoung, the new managing editor of newsletters at Healthline, and this is my first time writing a newsletter here. I hope I do as good of a job as Ginger, Tim, and Morgan! | The other week, I was having blood drawn, and my results were mostly normal. Turns out, I was pretty low in vitamin D. The same goes for roughly 42% of people in the United States — perhaps you too! Below, I dive into other common nutritional deficiencies, as well as what we can include in our diets to keep our bodies balanced and nourished. (Spoiler: We should all be eating more fish.) | Here are some other reads I think you'll find interesting too: | | | | One more thing! Usually, I'll check the amounts of sodium, added sugar, and protein but stop there. It never crosses my mind to look for other vitamins and nutrients. | 🔗 The link between what you eat and how you feel. While a balanced diet helps you consume the essential minerals you need, certain diets — such as the typical American diet, vegetarian diets, and vegan diets — often run low on (or even exclude) nutrients that you should actually pay more attention to. When you're deficient in certain nutrients, you might experience tiredness, slow brain function, bone loss, eye damage, and other sneaky symptoms. | 👀 Just so you're aware, here are seven of the most common deficiencies: | | | | | | | | 🧪 Consider getting tested. It's not often that most of us get blood work done and can have our nutrient levels checked by a doctor, which is why I thought this could be a good reminder for you. My doctor only called out a vitamin D deficiency, so I feel confident that I'm getting enough of the other nutrients on this list. Go, me! 😜 | 🔼 How to boost your levels. If you notice anything slightly off in the way your body feels, there's a chance it could be related to what you are — or aren't — eating. Simple additions to your diet, such as eating more eggs, fish, leafy greens, and even some dark chocolate, can get you on the right track. And if you're following a particular diet, consider taking supplements under your doctor's guidance. | | | Bloat, be gone! | | | | | | Ritual's Synbiotic+ supplement helped Healthline editor Christy Snyder get her gut health in check without an adjustment period or negative side effects. It also helped reduce bloating, and she loves the minty-fresh flavor of the capsule! It's a pre-, pro-, and postbiotic, all in one!
