| | | Will an apple (cider vinegar) a day keep the doctor away? | Natural home remedy, health supplement, cleaning product, hair conditioner — is there anything apple cider vinegar (ACV) isn't used for? While more research is needed to confirm its many touted benefits, ACV is an accessible, safe product to use for many purposes.
What are the possible perks? Existing evidence suggests ACV boasts several potential benefits. Some people think they're due to acetic acid, while others believe the mother (aka the proteins, enzymes, and bacteria that give organic, unfiltered ACV that murky look) is responsible. Whatever the reason, studies have found that using it can: How much should you take? It depends on your reason for consuming it in the first place, but a common dosage ranges anywhere from 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons per day. You can dilute it in water and then drink up or use it while cooking to make salad dressings or mayonnaise. Supplements like my favorite GOLI's ACV gummies exist, too.
Precautions to consider. Start slow, and avoid taking large amounts. Side effects may include tooth enamel erosion, lowered potassium levels, and negative interaction with some medications. Before using ACV as a health supplement, speak with a doctor to make sure it's right for you.

| | | Reasons and treatment options for hair loss | Alopecia explained. While it's natural to shed between 50 and 100 hairs each day, alopecia (hair loss) happens at a much higher rate and volume. Symptoms include a widening part, receding hairline, loose hair, bald patches, or an itchy, painful scalp.
Potential causes. There are many possible reasons why you might be losing hair. Some of the more common causes are genetics, age, autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata, chemotherapy, medications, trauma, stress, or illnesses like thyroid disease.
How to treat hair loss. It's important to see a doctor to be properly diagnosed and find the treatment option that's best for you. Although no single treatment is guaranteed to work, options include topical or oral medications, laser therapy, hair growth supplements, and hair transplant surgery. You can also help prevent hair loss by keeping loose hairstyles, pat drying your hair, not twisting or pulling your hair, avoiding chronic stress, and eating a balanced, nutrient-rich diet.
