Reporters at NPR and WUFT 89.1 are out in the field right now. Their reporting is time-consuming, expensive to produce, and requires strong funding.
Reporting staff at newsrooms across the country have shrunk in the past few decades. Research from Report for America suggests that the number of newspaper newsroom staff per 100,000 people has dropped by 62 percent since 2004. That means fewer people holding those in power to account.
