Usually, when there’s a contest, all eyes are on the winner. But when it comes to the Tiny Desk Contest — NPR Music’s annual search for the next great undiscovered artist — there’s really just too much talent to celebrate one single act. Since 2015, we’ve asked unsigned artists from across the country to show off their creativity by sending us a video of them performing an original song. Each year, one standout artist wins the grand prize: their very own Tiny Desk concert. But with thousands of impressive, unexpected, and totally unique submissions, we’ve had no choice but to spotlight more than our top choice. Enter Tiny Desk Contest Top Shelf, a weekly livestream series that shares the cream of the crop from our Contest entrants. Each week, Tiny Desk concert series creator Bob Boilen is joined by another one of this year’s Contest judges to highlight their favorite entries ahead of the announcement of our winner in September. Some entries are stirring. Some are a riot. Some are obvious stars-in-the-making. To experience this world of talent for yourself, set reminders to join us Thursdays at 3 p.m. ET/ 12 p.m. PT on YouTube, or sign up for email reminders from NPR Presents. Tune in, discover a new favorite artist that you won’t be able to stop listening to, and ask yourself — who’s the winner in your eyes? |
