What were you hoping to find in today's newsletter? New music from your favorite artist? Maybe a Tiny Desk concert that you'll pass along to a friend? Perhaps a great piece of writing about the 20th anniversary of a now-classic album? Whatever you’re looking for each week, from the inspiring and the uplifting to the thought-provoking and adventurous, the NPR Music team has worked hard to deliver it. I'm Bob Boilen, creator and host of All Songs Considered and the Tiny Desk concert series. My mission at NPR Music is to change lives in positive ways. Our entire team is passionate about finding talented artists and giving them a platform. That's why this year, All Songs Considered featured conversations with everyone from Cat Stevens to Sylvan Esso, from announcing our 2020 Tiny Desk Contest winner Linda Diaz to discussing the incredible life of Little Richard. And though I had to leave my desk as we closed down the NPR offices in mid-March, we still published more than 50 Tiny Desk concerts this year, including performances from stars like Alicia Keys, the cast of Broadway’s Hadestown, The Free Nationals, Harry Styles, Coldplay and Bob Weir, and lots of great unknowns, including Lankum, Angelica Garcia, Indigo Sparke and Koffee. And since we couldn't be in the office, we've had 100 artists performing from their homes, backyards and basements in our Tiny Desk (home) concert series, too. NPR — including NPR Music — relies on support from Member stations all over the country, and one of the easiest ways to support what we do is to donate to your local NPR station. Today, I ask you to stop for just a moment, consider all you get from NPR Music and this newsletter and support it by contributing to the NPR station in your community. |
