Kirk Douglas, Hollywood Tough Guy And 'Spartacus' Superstar, Dies At 103

With his cleft chin and gritty voice, Douglas was often cast as a troubled tough guy, most famously as the rebellious Roman slave Spartacus. Off-screen, he also led an open revolt against Hollywood's blacklist. In 1994, he told NPR he was proud of that fight: "I think it's one of the good things that I've done in life."
